Each November the Washington Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) joins national and international colleagues to celebrate individuals and organizations that have dedicated themselves to philanthropy.
We host one of the oldest and largest National Philanthropy Day celebrations in the country, with over 1,200 attendees.
This year marks our 20th celebration of National Philanthropy Day on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel.
Community leaders, non-profit organizations, volunteers, and donors will gather to honor outstanding philanthropic leaders, who have invested their passion, time, talents, and financial support to better their community.
We encourage you to nominate this year’s awardees for outstanding philanthropic corporation, small business, foundation, organization, individual, family, and youth.
This is also a chance for non-profit organizations to inspire their own key volunteers and donors. Year after year, attendees have commented that they feel invigorated by the stories they hear. We encourage you to honor your volunteers and donors by hosting them at the luncheon. Your mission is sure to benefit from their renewed energy and passion. You can extend a “special thanks” by presenting a STARS leaf pin.
We are pleased to announce a new element to the day's program, and that is an educational session for professional and volunteer fundraisers.
Nominations for the 2008 celebration are being accepted through Friday, June 6, 2008. Click here for information on how to submit a nomination.

Finding creative ways to recognize our volunteers and donors for their invaluable contributions to our philanthropic community is important to all of us. This year, as we welcome you to National Philanthropy Day, we also invite you to highlight the contributions of these important supporters. You know who they are: maybe it is an unsung hero, a board member, or a superlative donor.
You can accomplish this in a very public way by recognizing your outstanding volunteers as "Stars" at this year's National Philanthropy Day luncheon on November 16th. Invite them to sit with you at the event, and honor them for only an additional $10 per ticket (tickets will go on sale in October). As a "Star", your volunteer will:

Leading Edge Philanthropy Award 1998 Pearl Jam
Building Bridges Award 2002 Roosevelt High School “Hands for a Bridge”
