From the Desk of the President

Welcome to a new year of AFP. You will find many opportunities through our Professional Education programs, our networking events and our active involvement in philanthropy to grow your skills and advance your mission. AFP brings together global resources, a code of ethics and leadership training to help advance development and non-profit executives to be leaders in the field and leverage increased philanthropy for all non-profits.

Consider this the year you will become credentialed as a Certified Fund Raising Executive, if you´ve not already done so. Consider this the year you will invite another fund raiser to join you as an AFP member. Consider this the year you will nominate a loyal and active supporter for an award at National Philanthropy Day.

There are active members looking to form interest groups or perhaps even new chapters in Tacoma and Spokane. The Washington State Chapter has set a goal of 500 members by 2010 as a part of the International AFP goal to achieve 50,000 members by our 50th year. Please take the time to explore our newly updated website, keep coming back to learn what´s new, and let us hear from you about how your association can provide value to you as a member.

National Philanthropy Day 2006 -- Thursday, November 16
and

Thanks to everyone who made NPD 2005 an outstanding success. More than 900 people dedicated to philanthropy attended the event. The 2006 NPD Committee had its kickoff meeting and are busy planning this year´s event, to be held in the new Seattle Sheraton ballroom, which will accommodate 1,400 people.

Bank of America has generously offered to be the presenting sponsor this year and Emcee Enrique Cerna is scheduled once again. More volunteers are needed to make this incredible event come together. Please email either one of the event Cochairs listed above if you would like to join the fun. It is also time to be thinking about who you might nominate for a National Philanthropy Day award. More information will be coming out later on in the year to tell you when nominations are due.
