    Education and Professional Development Committee

If you’re as excited as we are about this programming, consider joining the Education and Professional Development (EPD) Committee.  We’re always looking for energetic volunteers to help promote and organize these events because we can’t do it alone!

The EPD Committee meets quarterly, and each member plays an active role in planning, producing and promoting the myriad of events throughout the year.  It’s a great way to meet others in the field.

For more information, contact the AFP office at 206.367.8704 or office@afpwashington.org.

    Membership Committee

The Membership Committee works to ensure that AFP Washington delivers on its promise to members and offers high-value programs and professionally meaningful connections.

If you would like to help advance membership satisfaction, recruitment and retention, we would love to have you join us.  We meet monthly and invite each person to engage at the level that feels appropriate for them.

For more information, contact the AFP office at 206.367.8704 or office@afpwashington.org.

    Communications Committee

This committee communicates the strategic vision of AFP Washington to members and the general community, in order to build greater awareness of the chapter and the benefits of membership.

By participating in this crucial committee, you will help:

    • Inform members about the benefits and resources available to them.

    • Ensure the success of AFP Washington by successfully promoting program offerings to the Puget Sound’s nonprofit community – including major gift trainings, Senior Salons, monthly luncheons and breakfasts, and the chapter’s signature annual events – the Major Gifts Symposium and National Philanthropy Day.

    • Maintain current and accurate communications through the website, e-mail newsletter and social media platforms.

    • Match job announcements and professional opportunities to interested fundraisers.

    Key Tasks include:
    • Establish key messages and communication strategies
    • Develop eUpdates
    • Manage eNews
    • Publicize and advertise luncheons, seminars, Senior Salons and other programs
    • Set chapter communication polices
    • Oversee and maintain the website

Each committee member is assigned a specific ongoing task and works closely with other members and the committee chair.  We are always in need of fundraising leaders with public relations, web content or graphic design experience – and also those who want to learn.

Meeting Schedule: First Thursday of March, May, July, September and November
    Time: 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Location: The Children’s Museum, Seattle, 305 Harrison St., Seattle Center
    Chair: Kirk Laughlin, klaughlin@thechildrensmuseum.org

For more information, contact the AFP office at 206.367.8704 or office@afpwashington.org.

    National Philanthropy Day (NPD) Committee

This committee plans and produces the Philanthropy Day event held every November. This AFP Washington-sponsored event is one of the largest of its kind in the entire country.

    Diversity Committee

This committee serves to bring diversity to AFP Washington and the fundraising sector throughout the Pacific Northwest. As the region becomes increasingly diverse, nonprofits´ ability to adapt and reflect the new and emerging needs of our communities and the shifting demographies are essential to success.

For more information, contact the AFP office at 206.367.8704 or office@afpwashington.org.

    Mentorship Committee

The primary goals of the Mentorship Committee are:

    • To promote the benefits of having a mentor at any career stage, and to recruit mentors that are suitable matches for early career fundraisers, as well as mid- and senior-level professionals

    • To create a mutually beneficial mentor program for protégés as well as mentors, ensuring that all participants feel valued for their contributions to the program

    • To foster AFP ethics and to promote AFP programs and services that will enrich mentor/protégé relationships

    • To provide a framework and resources for mentor relationships to thrive

Members of the Mentoring Committee collaborate on the following tasks:

    • Tapping into the vast network of AFP Washington member relationships and making contact via phone, email and at events to recruit mentors that represent a variety of sectors and specialties

    • Connecting with current members and potential members at AFP Washington events, as well as via phone calls and email

    • Making ten biannual mentor/protégé matches that reflect participants’ backgrounds, interests and personalities

    • Connecting with mentors and protégés throughout the year by phone and email to offer timely guidance and to get feedback on the program and match

    • Hosting informal socials throughout the year at various nonprofits, coffee shops and pubs to provide networking and enrichment opportunities for both mentors and protégés

    • Collaborating with the Communications Committee to promote the Mentoring Program in appropriate chapter communications and events (website, eUpdates, luncheons, etc.)

    Time Commitment for Participation:
The Mentoring Committee meets 4-5 times annually, in addition to recruitment and communications with current and prospective participants on committee members’ own time.  Mentoring Committee members are strongly encouraged to stay actively involved on the committee for at least one year.

For more information, contact the AFP office at 206.367.8704 or office@afpwashington.org.

    Scholarship Committee

This committee recruits applications and then awards AFP Washington scholarships to up and coming fundraising leaders.

    Regional Programming Committee

Help AFP Washington bring programming to your community!

If you live outside Seattle, the Eastside or the South Sound, and would like to see AFP Washington present a program a little closer to home, we’d like to work with you to help make that happen.

Give us a call with your program ideas (you know what your local fundraising community needs better than we do) and together, we’ll work with you to make it happen.  All it takes is a little elbow grease, and a couple of committed volunteers!

For more information about getting started, contact Regional Programming Liaison Thea Kleiber at 360.650.2273.

    Public Policy Committee

The Public Policy Chair of the Board of Directors convenes interested colleagues as needed throughout the year to discuss federal, state and local policy issues and trends.

From informal “policy throw-downs” on hot issues, to content-rich programs or relationship building meetings with policymakers, AFP Washington is the place for fundraisers to explore public policy.

    To get involved:
    • Contact Megan E. McNally at megan@mdsNorthwest.com
    • Check the AFP Washington events calendar [please link to 2.a.] for a public policy inspired event
    • Become a Facebook fan and receive alerts about issues, ideas & opportunities

    Ad Hoc Volunteer Opportunities

There currently are no ad hoc volunteer opportunities.

But as the year ramps up and events start happening, AFP Washington will need volunteers in a variety of capacities.

If you’re interested in volunteering but don’t want to join a committee, contact the AFP office at 206.367.8704 or office@afpwashington.org for more information.
