Andrea John-Smith   Andrea John-Smith

Andrea John-Smith runs Andrea John-Smith Consulting, which provides fundraising, marketing and strategic business counsel to nonprofit organizations in Seattle. Her most recent leadership positions include Fund Development & Communications Officer with Impact Capital, and Director of Community Campaigns at the United Way of King County. Andrea has also held key fundraising positions with The Salvation Army and the University of Washington’s Graduate School of Public Affairs.

A strong community development advocate, she served as the revitalization consultant to the Columbia City Revitalization Committee in the early 1990’s, and remains an active volunteer in Seattle’s Rainier Valley. A graduate of University of California at Berkeley, Ms. John-Smith majored in Humanities with an emphasis in music and rhetoric. After graduation, she spent most of her twenties as a working jazz vocalist until moving to Seattle in 1992.

Scott Garrepy   Scott Garrepy

Scott Garrepy is the Development Director for International Programs at Washington State University. Scott is the former Director of Institutional Advancement for the Tony Award-winning INTIMAN Theatre, and his over 15 years of experience includes development positions at Seattle Opera and the Atlanta Ballet, as well as work as a consultant advising nonprofit and for-profit organizations on philanthropic partnerships.

He is also on the Leadership Tomorrow Curriculum Committee and on the board of the Greater Good Foundation. Scott will be AFP President in 2010.

Ray Li   Ray Li

Ray Li serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for Neighborhood House -- a local nonprofit dedicated to helping people with limited resources attain self-sufficiency. Previously, Ray served as the assistant director of development for the Greater Hartford Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Ray holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biopsychology from the University of British Columbia and a masters in nonprofit leadership from Seattle University. In his spare time, Ray enjoys the great outdoors and cooking. In the rest of his spare time, he provides service on the boards of Northwest Development Officers Association, where he completed a term as president in 2005.

Alex Wang   Alex Wang
Vice President of Communications Committee

Alex Wang is a development associate at Neighborhood House where he supports the organization’s fundraising and public relations efforts to help people with limited resources attain self-sufficiency. He has a background in communications, including publication management at ForestEthics and consulting on brand, capital campaigns and strategic planning while at Pyramid Communications.

Alex graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in psychology and Ethnic Studies. He still misses the San Francisco Bay Area.

Simon Pritkin   Simon Pritkin

Simon Pritkin is a director of major and planned giving for Group Health Foundation. Prior to Group Health, Simon worked as a development officer for INTIMAN Theatre and Seattle Symphony Orchestra. His for-profit experience includes positions with government affairs at AT&T and business development for technology companies.

He serves on the board of the North Seattle Community College Education Fund, is a member of The Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and earned a MBA from The University of Rhode Island.

Peter Drury   Peter Drury

Membership

Peter has served in board and staff leadership roles in settings ranging from social work to sustainability, from AIDS to the arts, and from interfaith relations to medical ethics. He carries a passion for elevating business savvy among nonprofit leaders, as well as for fostering healthy nonprofit organizations.

Peter is a current M.B.A. candidate at Seattle University, and holds prior degrees from Yale University (M.Div.), the University of Illinois (M.S.W.) and the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington.

Andrea Solomon is Vice President of Resource Development for Childhaven. Previously, she was with the YWCA of Seattle, King County, Snohomish County for five years.

Andrea holds a Master in Public Administration from the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.

Josef Krebs graduated from the University of Washington Fundraising Management Certificate Program, and has worked with non-profits in education, social services and the arts. He is currently Development Director at ACT Theatre.

Anne Marie McPherson   Anne Marie McPherson

Anne Marie MacPherson is Principal at The Collins Group, where she helps nonprofits fulfill their philanthropic visions to strengthen our community. Prior to joining The Collins Group in 2003, she served as chief development officer at Unitus and Seattle Goodwill, as well as Director of Market Development for Goodwill in Milwaukee/Chicago.

She holds a M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Mel Baer   Mel Baer

Mel Baer is Director of Development & Marketing for Youth Eastside Services, where he recently completed the organization’s $10.7 million capital and service expansion campaign.

Mel has been involved in fundraising in the Puget Sound area for 24 years, 20 of them in senior development positions at NPR affiliate KPLU, Bellevue Art Museum and Jewish Family Service. Directing annual fund, capital and endowment campaigns, he has fundraised over $50 million.

Colleen Bromen   Colleen Bromen

Colleen Bromen is the major gifts associate at the YWCA of Seattle, where she has been a member of the development team since 2005. Prior to her current role, she was the special events coordinator at the YWCA.

In addition to her involvement with AFP, Colleen is a member of the board of Therapeutic Health Services. She graduated from the University of Washington Fundraising Management certificate program in 2007.

Before starting as director of major & planned giving at Lakeside School in February 2004, Carol served as director of development and communications at Music Works Northwest. Prior to that she served as director of development at the Northwest AIDS Foundation.

Her 28 years as a fundraising professional also include 12 years in the performing arts.

Sonya Campion   Sonya Campion, CFRE

Sonya Campion’s 22 years in fundraising range from executive director at Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility to capital campaign consulting for hundreds of organizations as a Principal of The Collins Group.

She is currently a full time trustee of her family foundation, the Campion Foundation, which focuses on wilderness, homelessness and capacity building. Sonya is also a national and international speaker and trainer, and was a Master Class teacher at the 2008 International Fundraising Congress in Amsterdam.

Believing cutting-edge professional education is essential to unlocking the tremendous potential in philanthropy, Sonya co-chaired the sold-out “Creating the Environment for Major Gifts” 2008 Symposium and is in the process of designing the 2009 Symposium.

Alicia Crane   Alicia Crane

Alicia started her work with nonprofits in the marketing realm and was "thrown in" to development when she was asked to write a grant in four days (which was granted!). From there she found she loved development and credits the Fundraising Management Program at the University of Washington for helping launch her professional career.

After seven years at CRISTA Camps in marketing and development, went to work for her alma mater, the University of Puget Sound, in 2006 as the Director of Donor Relations.

Laura Edman   Laura Edman, CFRE

Laura Edman is vice president in the Seattle office of The Alford Group, one of the nation’s top consulting firms for nonprofits. Laura has 25 years of experience as a fundraising professional and consultant. Prior to joining Alford, Laura held leadership fundraising positions at MultiCare Health System, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and the University of Puget Sound.

Laura is also a frequent speaker at local, regional and national conferences and is noted for her work on the "Culture of Philanthropy."

Mary Kaufman-Cranney   Mary Kaufman-Cranney, CFRE

Mary serves as director of development for Seattle Opera, one of the leading opera companies in the United States. Seattle Opera is internationally recognized for the quality of its productions and as the pre-eminent presenter of Wagner’s opera in the United States.

Prior to coming to Seattle Opera in January of 2008, Mary served as senior vice president for the YMCA of Greater Seattle, building their development program over 20 years. As a Seattle native, Mary is involved in a variety of philanthropic organizations and is proud to serve on the AFP Board of Directors.

Thea Kleiber   Thea Kleiber, CFRE

Thea Kleiber is the Director of Development for Fairhaven College and Western Libraries at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. She has served as development director for Mount Baker Theatre, and held key fundraising positions with Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Cascadia Revolving Fund, a nationally prominent community development organization.

Ms. Kleiber earned her CFRE credential in 2002, and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of London in the United Kingdom. She was president of AFP Washington in 2006.

Ashley Leasure   Ashley Leasure

Ashley Leasure joins the AFP Board of Directors with more than 15 years of experience as a Development Director for non-profit organizations--most recently expanding the fundraising programs of ACT Theatre and Seattle Theatre Group (the historic Paramount and Moore Theatres).

Prior to coming to Seattle, Ashley led development programs including a seven county division of the March of Dimes and CENTERS for Children & Families. In early 2007, she founded her company, OrangeGerbera, Inc., and began consulting and contracting with several nonprofit groups in the Puget Sound area.

Mark McCampbell is Vice President of Development for Seattle Symphony. Mark began his development career in Chicago in 1983 and spent 17 of his 25 years in fundraising as a chief development officer.

An active member of the AFP Washington chapter since 1989, Mark served as President in 1996. An avid runner and tri-athlete, Mark's special interest is helping his colleagues in the profession seek and discover a life balance that will improve their dedication and service to the profession.

Megan McNally   Megan McNally
Public Policy Chair

Megan McNally is a principal of mds|Northwest, a boutique consultancy serving philanthropic and charitable organizations. She has spent a decade and a half in the nonprofit sector, including senior development positions at NPower National and Refugee Women’s Alliance. Megan also serves as lead fundraising counsel to a public/private effort to build a low-income designated credit union for King County, and leads the public policy efforts for Philanthropy Northwest--a six state regional association of private grantmakers.

She teaches grantwriting at the University of Washington’s Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs, and fundraising in the university’s Nonprofit Leadership certificate program. An activist at heart, she is happiest when her professional and volunteer time intertwine for the better.

Sharon Mooers is the Development Director for the Pacific Northwest Region of Olive Crest Homes & Services for Abused Children. She has worked in development for the past 14 years.

Since 2001 she has worked with Olive Crest in establishing and building a successful development program for Washington and Oregon. Prior to Olive Crest she worked for a variety of positions for the American Heart Association, including Regional Director in Washington State, Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director.

Sara Oshikawa-Clay serves as the Director of Major Gifts at the Medic One Foundation. Prior to joining the Medic One Foundation, Sara held key fund development positions at Nikkei Concerns, Seattle Goodwill and The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.

Employed as a professional fundraiser since 1997, Sara holds a Master in Public Administration from the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.

Karen Rotko-Wynn is vice president and west regional manager at The Alford Group, a full-service nonprofit consulting firm. Prior to joining The Alford Group in 2001, Karen worked as a fundraising professional for more than 20 years, including as director of development at Seattle Symphony, and in other capacities at Carnegie Hall, Intiman Theatre and A Contemporary Theatre.

Jeanne Thorsen is Executive Director of the King County Library System Foundation. Prior to taking this post in 2000, she was the System´s Community Relations Director for 15 years. Jeanne has masters’ degrees in public administration and library science.

Rich Thorvilson   Rich Thorvilson

Rich Thorvilson is the Planned Giving Director at the ACLU of Washington Foundation. In 2007, Rich made his move into fundraising at the ACLU after a 25-year career in banking and trust management. He is a board member of PONCHO, and a former board member of the development committee of Lifelong AIDS Alliance. He is also currently vice president of the Washington Planned Giving Council.

Rich has a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
